FAQ
All first-time customers participate in a pre-tour training session to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Training time is part of the overall tour time (3-4 hours). Riders are trained on safe electric bike operation and basic riding skills. All riders are required to wear a helmet, gloves and additional protective wear is optional.
Your guide sets the pace for each group. Our electric bikes can be ridden at a normal riding speed of 5-10mph, but can go up to 20 mph. Our SF Bay Area tours may overlap crowded streets, so guides will limit the speed for a relaxed cruise. Our electric bikes average about 30 miles between battery charges. A fully charged battery will last with constant riding for approximately 6 hours. Riding times vary with hills, rider weight and speed.
Each of our group electric bike adventure tours are 3-4 hours including the 20-30 minute training time. We do make stops for pictures along our routes. Our tour guides carry cameras too! For your safety we request that riders do not take pictures or videos while riding. It is really hard to ride and see obstacles while operating a camera. Our bikes have mounts so bring your GoPro for sure! Our guides will take pictures of your group and post them online on our Facebook page. Guests can download the pictures for free. Guides are happy to take pictures of your group with your camera. Please ask.
EcoBike Adventures encourages group bookings of 8-24 riders. Contact us for large groups 25+, special events and custom tours.
At each of our locations, your guides select the route that best suits your group. We recommend that participants ages 12+ have some mountain bike riding experience. On each of our tours, the routes may be changed, rerouted or deleted based on guest skills/previous bike riding experience. Changes will be made at the discretion of the tour guide and or manager. We ride on designated routes that may include a variety of roads, trails and pathways. We strongly stress that EcoBike Adventures guests ride courteously to “Share the Trail” with other vehicles, bikes, pedestrians and horses. It is the electric bike rider’s responsibility to yield to pedestrians. Pedestrians have the right-of way. Our routes in the Bay Area are mainly on designated bike lanes. These bike lanes are adjacent to city streets. You will have to be aware of your surroundings and traffic. Safety is very important to us: All guests must be age 12 or older and weigh at least 100 pound (46 kilos).
Weather can vary greatly at our tour locations. We recommend you dress comfortably and in layers. Wear comfortable closed toe flat shoes (no high heels, sandals or flip flops) and bring an extra layer of warm, breathable, and wind resistant clothing. We provide each EcoBike Adventures guest with a small backpack for cameras, light jackets and purses. Please leave bulky backpacks at home. Eye protection, a bandana and long sleeves are recommended.
With our guests from around the world we get asked about guide gratuities every day Any additional guide gratuities are completely at the discretion of the guest. We employ a great and diverse group of guides. They guide because it is a fun job and they get to meet people from all corners of the world. Similar to service businesses all over the United States, gratuities are a small part of the compensation the staff receives. If you choose to give your guide an extra gratuity, it would be much appreciated. Gratuities are included as part of the pre-paid cost for our team-building and corporate events.

How do you evaluate and /or handle a guest with a disability / medical condition? It is important to note that the electric bike has NOT been designed, tested, or approved as a medical device. Our staff are not professionally trained to recognize or evaluate disabilities. We are not doctors or clinicians. If you contact us in advance we will try to arrange for a free demo / training the day (or days) before your tour. This is only if we have staff and time available. We use this time to try to best evaluate the riders abilities. During this time a staff member will spend one on one time with the guest and answer questions. We always err on the side of safety.
We will most likely not have a lot of extra time during training prior to the tour departure to work with a guest. We operate on schedule so the other paying guests have a full tour experience. On occasion (if we have space) guests that don’t feel comfortable or do not have the skills have stayed in our training area vs. going on the tour. They receive a bit of extra riding time without being out on the tour.
This includes recent surgeries, back braces, pregnancy (not allowed to go on tour), fainting spells, missing limbs, hip replacements, knee replacements, hearing loss, vision problems, casts, drugs that may impair motor control and much more than we can list here. Altitude sickness, jet lag, and dehydration from long flights can also be a problem for our international guests.
1. We will not let you leave our training facility if we feel you are not a competent / safe rider.
2. We do not offer a full refund if we or you decide that it will not be safe for you to proceed.
All reservations require payment via credit card. We Accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express. We do not charge a security deposit on your credit card. Your card will be charged for any damages to the electric bike.
Riders are responsible for all damages to the electric bike and/or anything /anyone they may accidentally collide with. Example: If you accidentally hit a parked car with an electric bike you will be responsible for the damages to the parked vehicle and the electric bike.
We DO NOT provide or offer insurance coverage for accidents or incidents. Each guest’s personal insurance and/or health insurance may provide coverage. We suggest checking with your insurance agent or provider before booking a tour. Please keep in mind that each electric bike costs over $3000.00.
Each of EcoBike Adventures Tour start locations have public restrooms near to the training area. We will make at least one restroom stop on all tours approximately 1+ hours after we begin training.
When someone hears electric bicycle, the first image they imagine may be a scooter or electric motorcycle – but they actually look pretty different. Just picture a regular bicycle, then add several electrical components to it like a motor, a battery, and a controller – all seamlessly integrated into the design. These items make up the fundamentals of the electric bicycles we provide for you to ride.
Electric bikes pedal and handle just like a regular bicycle and an electric bike will use the same parts too. The electric component is meant to augment human power, not completely replace it. It makes obstacles like hills and headwind more manageable and allows you to travel further without getting as tired.
